Beginnings

With Beginnings, Merida invites you into an experiential textile exhibition where each piece requires your participation to be complete. Featuring six artist’s proofs inspired by the first art, nature, this exhibition calls upon the elemental essence of lava as a nod to the beginnings of life on earth.

As elements clash, surfaces crack, and organic forms emerge, Merida reflects upon the subtle and grand gestures that nature creates.

Along with the exhibition, anthropologist and color specialist Anne Varichon will speak about the historical significance of the color red, taking the radiant glow of the lava-colored pieces as both inspiration and tool. Her recently translated book Color Charts: A History will be available through Princeton Press next month.
