Portale is an homage to the work of conceptual artist Jannis Kounellis, who transformed unconventional materials and found objects into artistic constructions. A motif of organic shapes emerges from a layered construction of contrasting wools and plied yarns, creating a tufted rug of light and shadow, texture and dimension.
Inspired by the Italian movement of the 1960s, Arte Povera is a meditation on voice—how ordinary materials become expressive through care, intention, and collaboration. Created with Merida Studio, the series reflects Sylvie Johnson’s belief that meaning is never fixed: each limited-edition piece is an evolving conversation between artist, material, and maker. Beauty is found not only in the final form, but in the act of making itself.
