We strive to evoke movement and connection through textile art.
At Merida Studio, we believe that textiles are not simply surfaces to walk on or look at—they are expressions of story, spirit, and human connection. Our work begins with the belief that materials have memory, and that the act of making holds emotional resonance.
We create to connect: to self, to others, and to the natural world. In practice and experience, we believe that when made with care and intention, textiles can do what words cannot—evoke deep, ineffable feeling in a world starving for something tangible and real.
In this, we believe in the power of elevation. To elevate is to see the everyday through the lens of craft, discipline, and thoughtfulness. We commit ourselves to a practice that values rigor as much as inspiration, process as much as product. This is not a pursuit of perfection, but of integrity—honoring the hands that make, the techniques that shape, and the ideas that guide. Our craftsmen and women are not technicians, but collaborators. Under the artistic direction of Sylvie Johnson, our artist-in-residence, we’ve seen what is possible when creative vision meets deep material knowledge. The result is a body of work that continually pushes boundaries—of skill, of imagination, and of what a woven textile can be.
Originality is our final, and perhaps most demanding, pursuit. In a field as ancient as weaving, originality is not easy. It requires risk, restraint, and the courage to stray from convention. Yet this is where we find our voice. We do not replicate—we invent.
We are a textile design studio committed to making artwork with integrity, depth, and soul. Everything we create is made in-house, in our Fall River workshop, on our looms, by our team. This inclusiveness allows us to work slowly, intentionally, and with purpose—ensuring that every piece carries the hand of the maker and the clarity of our vision.
As with all art, the story is not complete until it lives in the world. Our textiles come alive in conversation—with the spaces they inhabit, the collectors who choose them, and the organic rhythms of daily life. We invite you to be part of this dialogue. To live with work that was made to last, to feel, and to reveal something more over time is a blessing everyone deserves.
