Heirlooms in the Making

A Merida Studio textile is not simply something you live with—it is something that lives with you. From the moment it enters your home, it begins to gather meaning: the footsteps of loved ones, the trace of celebrations, the quiet rhythms of daily life. Over time, it becomes more than an object. It becomes a keeper of memory, an heirloom in the making.

True heirlooms are never just old antiques. They carry the imprint of the hands and traditions that shaped them, the moments they have witnessed, and the lives that follow after. Unlike disposable goods, which come and go without leaving a trace, a well-crafted object holds identity. To choose one is to choose a way of living—one that values longevity over trend, care over convenience, meaning over the fleeting.

This has always been the role of art. From the earliest human history, art was not hidden away in galleries or reserved for elites. It was part of life itself—woven into cloth, carved into tools, painted onto walls—made to be touched, used, and cherished. At Merida Studio, we see our textiles as part of this lineage: works of art that are not only meant to move you, but to be lived with. They change with you, even as you are changed by them.

This is the singular power of heirloom pieces: they do more than fill a space, they collect stories. They carry forward the marks of time and the lives they have touched, developing a richness that cannot be manufactured or replaced.

To choose something crafted to last is to make an investment not just in beauty, but in experience—an investment in how you live, and how you feel, every day.

When we preserve objects, we preserve crafts... keeping alive the knowledge that otherwise might be lost. Conservation, in that way, is a multifaceted act of preservation.

Conservation and Care

Each Merida Studio rug is a work of design and craftsmanship, made to evolve over time. Like a painting or a sculpture, it can be conserved and restored by those who understand its materials and methods. Our knowledgeable team is equipped to guide you through everyday care as well as more extensive conservation when needed.

In choosing a Merida Studio rug, you’ve chosen something made to last—not just in quality, but in meaning. Our rugs are not trends: they are pieces to live with, care for, and eventually pass on.

This is the art of conservation—carried forward, one generation at a time.

Luxury is not about replacing what wears, but restoring what we love—so it can continue to enrich our lives.

Clean

Most spills and marks can be cleaned with simple soap and water. We strongly discourage chemical treatments, which can strip or damage the natural fibers. Instead, think of care as a quiet ritual—gentle, consistent, and lasting.

When spills occur, blot them immediately with a clean, dry cloth. For most stains, a mild soap diluted in water will suffice—apply gently and blot, never rub.

To maintain your rug’s surface, vacuum regularly using suction only, avoiding beater bars or rotating brushes. Over time, rotating your rug occasionally will help promote even wear.

Have a spill? Don't worry.

Restore

For most households, simple care is all that’s needed. Regular vacuuming and the occasional spot cleaning with mild soap and water will keep your rug looking its best through daily living—whether it’s a glass of wine spilled at dinner, a pet accident, or the natural wear of footsteps across a room.

But there are times when a rug needs something more than routine care. Restoration refers to a deeper, professional clean that revives your rug after heavier use. This is most often required in commercial or public spaces where rugs receive constant traffic, but it may also be necessary in the home—after a lively gathering, or for an entryway rug that has weathered a muddy season.

Restoration returns your rug to its original shine, lifting away dirt and wear that ordinary care cannot. When the time comes, our team can guide you to trusted professionals who specialize in natural fibers, ensuring your rug is cleaned with the same respect and expertise with which it was made.

Repair Image

Repair

Life happens, and even the most durable rugs can encounter more drastic accidents. When they do, our team offers expert consultation to determine the best path forward.

We offer expert repair and restoration services for all Merida Studio rugs. From minor snags to more significant conservation efforts like stains and burns, our team approaches each project with deep material knowledge and respect for the original craftsmanship.

Our repair services range from reweaving and structural rug repairs to careful edge restoration. We also provide assessments for long-term conservation, ensuring that your rug can be preserved and enjoyed for generations to come.

We embrace a philosophy akin to kintsugi—the Japanese art of mending ceramics with gold—where a repair does not erase the story of a piece, but becomes an intentional addition to its beauty. In this way, every restoration honors both the craft of the original weaving and the life the rug has lived, ensuring it continues to hold meaning for generations to come.

Need a repair? We’re here to support you for the life of your rug.
